THORNTON ELISHA WALKER

Thornton Elisha Walker was born in the Milam County, Texas community of Pin Oak. He was the son of Madison "Matt" Walker and the grandson of James E. Walker.

Thornton married Elizabeth Lodema "Lizzie" Morgan in Gause, Milam County, Texas on March 26, 1916. Click here for a photo of Thornton and Lizzie.

Thornton and Lizzie had three children: (1) James Luther Walker, b. 1917 (married Florence Joy Rice); (2) Elizabeth Beatrice Walker, b. 1919 (married Thomas Marvin Kirk); and, (3) Flonnie Ola Walker, b. 1921 (married John Norris Boland).

As a young man, Thornton farmed. In 1927, he and Lizzie purchased a general store in Milano, Milam County, Texas. The couple operated the store until their retirement, selling groceries, feed, and Gulf gasoline.

In addition to store work, Thornton and Lizzie raised cattle, maintained a large garden, and kept chickens. Thornton was a deacon of the Milano First Baptist Church. He died in a hospital at Temple, Bell County, Texas.
