ROBERT EARL "BOB" RICE

May 29, 2007

William and Carrie Rice's son Robert Earl "Bob" Rice was born in Texas in January of 1880. Bob Rice moved to Imperial County, California at some point prior to September 12, 1918. It was on that day that Bob registered at El Centro, Imperial County, California for the draft (WWI). Bob listed his address as Imperial, Imperial County, California. He reported that he was a self-employed rancher. The registrar noted that Bob was of medium height and build--with grey eyes and dark hair.

Some family members recalled that Bob married his business partner's widow. Various records confirm that some time after 1920 Bob married Effie Anderson Martin, the widow of Richard McDarvel (McDowel ?) Martin.

Effie Anderson Martin Rice was born in Arkansas around 1882. Her first husband, Richard Martin, was born in Arkansas on 30 Aug 1879. Richard was the son of John W. Martin (b. Ark abt 1856) and Martha Martin (b. Ark abt 1861), who lived in Franklin Township, Stone County, Arkansas in 1880.

Effie Anderson Martin Rice and first husband Richard Martin had lived in Haskell County, Oklahoma before moving to California. Effie and Mr. Martin had at least five children, all born in Oklahoma: (1) daughter Mattie Martin (b. 1903 - married ______ Browder); (2) daughter Nevada Martin (born abt 1906); (3) son Forrest Martin (b. abt 1907); (4) daughter Dora Susie Martin (b. 1909 - first married ______ Nellis - next married Hubert Otis Brookin); and, (5) daughter Velma Alma Martin (b. 1913 - married ______ Kara).

It is believed that Bob Rice had no children. He died in California around May 1, 1926.
