J. T. AUSTIN

J. T. Austin would appear to be John T. Austin. A reader writes that John T. Austin is on a roster sheet for the 5th TX infantry (Milam Co. Grays) Company G, which is consistent with the unit information on J. T. Austin's marker. The roster sheet shows him to be a private who enlisted March 15, 1862, that he was wounded at Chickamauga Sept 19,1863, and that he surrendered at Appomattox April 9,1865.

This may be the John T. Austin who married Mary Jane Little in Milam County, Texas on October 28, 1875. The following is copied from the 1880 Milam County, Texas Census (p. 155):
